Cold night for travellers as trailer blocks Mombasa road

Hundreds of travellers were forced to spend their Sunday night in the cold, after a trailer fell and blocked the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

The trailer fell and blocked the highway at Makindu-Kiboko area, preventing movement to and from Mombasa and Nairobi.

The accident happened at about 6pm. Efforts to immediately remove the trailer from the road were thwarted by heavy rainfall witnessed in the area.

Heavy traffic was the major occurance on the road for the better part of Monday morning, as efforts to remove the trailer from the road continued.

At the time of going to press, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) had not issued a statement over the same.

Tahmeed Coaches Limited alert clients of a possible delay in travel schedules, due to the incident.

"We would like to inform you that most routes will experience delays tomorrow Monday 13th November, as a result of a road traffic accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway between Masimba and Kiboko area. We kindly request you to exercise patience as relevant authorities work to resolve this."
