Diplomats praise Ruto's management style - MP Elachi

By Peter Ochieng

President Wiliam Samoei Ruto’s management style has reportedly been praised by diplomats.

Dagoretti Member of Parliament (MP) Beatrice Elachi during an interview on KBC said members of the diplomatic core, among them United Nations (UN) ambassadors, are happy with Ruto’s time keeping mantra.

The former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker said during Ruto’s predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta’s time in office, securing a meeting at State House meant diplomats suspending all other activities of the day.

“They used to know that you cannot have any other meeting when meeting President Uhuru. They have never seen something like that and that is one thing they thank the President for,” said the MP.

Elachi was elected on the ODM party ticket. She worked closely with Uhuru when she served as Jubilee nominated Senator, from 2013 to 2017.

On Tuesday this week, some senior government officials including Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries attracted the wrath of Ruto, when they arrived late for a performance contract signing ceremony.

They were locked out of the State House.

They included CS for Interior Kithure Kindiki and his Trade and Investment counterpart Moses Kuria.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said he knew trouble was up in the air for the late comers, when he ‘looked at the president in the eye.’

''I saw some were late, and I looked the President in the eye and realized that there would be trouble for them,” he said.

''You can't arrive at an event when the president is already seated. Why would you come late? How do you explain that? Who did you go to see and yet today was the most important day for you to sign contracts?''

President Ruto later directed the late comers to explain to him in writing reasons for arriving late.

He warned them against using traffic jams as an excuse.
