Former Councilor charged with attempted murder

A former Narok County Council Councilor yesterday appeared before Narok Senior Resident Magistrate Phyllis Shinyada charged with attempted murder.
Mpatinga Ole Kamoye, 53, and his son, who was not in court at the time of taking plea, was accused of shooting Sointanae Tipango at the lower abdomen at Olashapani village in Narok South Sub County.
Narok South Sub County Criminal Investigating Officer (CIO) Stephen Ndungu informed the court that the complainant together with his brothers were in their land constructing a cow shed when they were confronted by the accused who was in the company of his son, both armed with two pistols and a shotgun.
The officer told the court that without any warning, the accused and the son started shooting towards the group of nine unarmed relatives who included the complainant which prompted them to run for safety but the complainant was not lucky as he was shot on the lower abdomen.
He said the accused’s son, Penori Kamoye is still at large.
The officer added that the accused is believed to be holding another firearm which has not yet been recovered and it is crucial that the same be traced and recovered. “At the scene of crime, we recovered two spent bullet cartridges and a bullet head and the same will be forwarded to DCI headquarters in Nairobi for ballistic examination,” he continued.
He said the accused has a history of misusing his private firearm as reported as per records at Ololulunga police station adding in one instance, he shot and killed his neighbour’s dog and had also threatened to kill his brother Raimet Kamoye and his son.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) prayed to the court not to release the accused who pleaded not guilty until further investigations is done on whether he is legalized to hold a gun or not.
The magistrate ordered the accused to remain in police custody until Monday April 24, 2023 when he will appear in court for bond terms ruling.
