Governor Lusaka appoints disaster committee

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka on Friday unveiled members of the county disaster and emergency committee.
The committee comprises of 11 members.
They are tasked with approving disaster and emergency management plans, coming up with relevant policies, and reporting disasters and emergencies among others.
Governor Lusaka said functions will be devolved at Ward level, to enhance efficiency.
The committee draws representation from various spheres of the society.
Caren Wanyonyi is the committee's chairperson, while Mathews Tsuma will serve as the secretary. Members are Christine Chacha - County Commissioner, Francis Kooli - Bungoma County police commander, Margaret Wanyonyi from the Kenya Red Cross and Emnanuel Were representing Civil Society Organisations.
Others are bishop Justus Khisa from Faith Based Organisations, Mohammed Assam representing Council of IMAMS, Dr. Ruth Mitalo from Kibabii University, David Kibiti from the Private Sector and Geoffrey Wafula from the Treasury.
Governor Lusaka said committee members have to roll up their sleeves and get down to work, adding that they stand to win or lose as a team.
"Please, let us make sure that this thing works. You know you've got a responsibility. I always say that there's no winner in a losing team."
The unveiling ceremony was attended by among others Bungoma County Assembly Speaker, Emmanuel Situma.
