Holiday or business? A disturbing question
By Robert Mutasi
It has been a tradition to many people including Kenya to rest and engage themselves in many celebrations during holidays particularly December every year.
Relatives, families and friends gather together to share various dishes of delicious foods and soft beverages that boost their moods in a jovial way.
The revelers embibe themselves with drinks to the nearby bars or perhaps their favorite bars to enjoy themselves.
Those who are working in different parts of the country and abroad, far away from their close friends and relatives, get a chance to meet again and cheer up.
The December holidays are embraced by the majority since they are a notion of loneliness. All these meet ups and celebrations tend to break the boredom, hangovers, frustrations and tiresome Ness that are resulting from work from January to December.
Holidays give all employers and employees opportunities to rest, relax, regain energy and rejuvenate themselves.
However, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the system has been slowly changing due to economic dynamics.
Economic hardships have forced some people, who are breadwinners, to shift their energy and focus on business and work to sustain their families.
The tune of festivities have changed, people have started focusing on planning the budgets of the new year that comes with new challenging and disturbing responsibilities every year.
Majority are content with that since they see it as one of the ways of cutting cost and saving for the future, only for those who depend on bread winners are complaining since they are addicted to the festivities with no pain but gain.
High cost of living has led to the stress and depression among many Kenyans who are one or other way subject to the mental problems.
Problems that have replaced the euphoric moods with some moods. Urbanization and individualism are rising rapidly due to technology and migration and job seeking.
These separate people from their loved ones. People who are busy looking for money to feed their families and pay bills.
