A candidate who sat the recently concluded KCSE exams has alleged that the papers leaked and were distributed to students about an hour before the official exams kicked off. Speaking to NTV News, the anonymous student claimed that the papers were shared on social media, thus making it difficult for the government to track them. He refuted claims that the examinations were credible, adding that he got access to several papers including; Geography, Kiswahili, CRE and some questions in the chemistry exam. “Kiswahili tulipata zote, CRE tulipata, Chemistry tulipata lakini sio zote. Ilikuwa inakuja before exam, kama papers inafaa kuanza 8 leakage ilikuwa inakuja 7:15. Leakage ilikuwa real wawachee kusema leakage haikuwa,” he told NTV. According to the student, corruption is to blame for exam leakage. The student claimed a section of teachers at their school were aware of the leakage and did nothing, adding that some teachers benefited from the leaked papers. “Tulikuwa na masimu paleni bweni before tuingie class ya exam. Kulikuwa na walimu walikuwa wanajua lakini hawakua wanachukua hatua yote. Mwalimu alikuwa anakupata nayo anakuambia malizia unipee,” the student alleged. The revelations by the student come at a time when the Ministry of Education has maintained that there was no leakage in the recently concluded KCSE exams. According to him, leakage means students getting the exam papers prior to the official time, which he says did not happen anywhere in the country. “When I give you the assurance as the head of education sector in this country that the examination has not leaked, take it to the bank,” Magoha said.
