In a display of skill and determination, Kenya Sevens edged out their rivals South Africa 22-17 in a thrilling encounter during their second match at the Dubai Sevens tournament on Saturday.

The exhilarating clash not only showcased the prowess of Shujaa, as the Kenyan squad is affectionately known, but it also served to elevate their confidence in the competitive landscape of international rugby sevens.

From the kick-off, it was a high-paced game of action as both teams showed their signature aggressive approach.

South Africa initially looked to dominate possession by making use of their physical strength to gain ground.

But Kenya's defense held strong and was resilient against the Springboks' advances. The breakthrough for Kenya came when talented forward Billy Odhiambo broke through the South African defense to score the first try at the four-minute mark.

The conversion by the captain, Jacob Ojee, saw Kenya take an early 7-0 lead, which was greeted with jubilation by their loyal supporters.

Not to be outdone, South Africa responded almost immediately as their captain, Siviwe Soyizwapi, crossed over to level the score at 7-7.

The game was one that continued to ebb and flow as the teams exchanged blow for blow. Kenya finally recollected themselves to strike once more when Ojee, sprinting down the sideline and weaving past defenders, clinched his team's second try.

The conversion missed its target, making it 12-7 to the Shujaa. As the game wore into the second half, South Africa's speedster, Impi Visser, showed his electric pace to dot down in the corner and tie the scores at 12-12.

The Kenyan side proved their grit, however, as they regained momentum in the match once more.

A brilliant team try, off a beautifully timed lineout, ended in a spectacular finish from fleet-footed Johnstone Olindi, pushing the score to 17-12.

With time running out, South Africa fought desperately to level the match, scoring a late try.

However, Kenya's defense proved resolute, and a final try from the Shujaa sealed their victory at 22-17.

This hard-fought win positions Kenya for potential success as they continue their campaign at the Dubai Sevens.

The team’s spirited performance has sent a clear message to their opponents: the Shujaa are ready to contend for the title.

Fans and pundits alike eagerly await Kenya's next matches, hopeful for more spectacular displays from this dynamic squad.
