Ksh 150 Billion Mweru Umoja one Irrigation project commissioned in Meru

President William Ruto has Commissioned a KSh150 million Mweru Umoja One irrigation Project at Central Imenti on Saturday. 

The project will put more than 500 acres of land under irrigation which is expected to , benefit over 5,000 farmers.

The President said that Irrigation farming will expand economic opportunities in the agricultural sector since rain-fed agriculture is no longer reliable due to a stretch of climate change.  

"The shift from rain-fed farming to irrigation is our bold and deliberate plan to enhance food production and ensure that we expand economic opportunities in the agriculture sector." President William Ruto said. 

The head of state was accompanied by Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH, Governor Kawira Mwangaza, MPs and MCAs.

The President is currently on a three day tour in the region where he is expected to launch Other projects launched in South, Central, and North Imenti in Meru including the Launch of ICT hubs in Mitungu, and Mukira Technical Training Institutes, launch of Meru University - Mariene campus, groundbreaking.for Michiune Market and Launch of Milimani affordable housing project.
