Spouse to the Prime Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Tessie Mudavadi has launched the Adopt a patient and adopt a bed campaign at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) that is aimed at connecting donors with patients who are financially incapable in settling their hospital bills.
Mrs. Mudavadi said that the thematic area for the Linda Mama and child care at KNH protects the children and mothers wellbeing and settling their hospital bills.
“Through Linda Mama and child care we have adopted seven patients alongside Ushirika Wema who have adopted three patients,” Mrs. Mudavadi said.
Speaking on Tuesday during the launch, Mrs. Mudavadi encouraged Kenyans to adopt families who are not in a position to get better health care services.
She also handed over 22 multipurpose hospital beds with in-built torch donated by National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and other partners.
KNH former director Stanly Kamau revealed that KNH will soon have vitro-fertilizations services which will be taking care of primary and secondary infertility.
Kamau called upon Kenyans and other well-wishers to take part and register with NSSF in helping the needy for better healthcare.
“If you donate one bed it means you have accommodated 60 patients for a month,” he said adding that if one pays Sh.6,000 it means one adopts a patient for a year.
He further revealed that the driving force behind the campaign is alleviating the difficulties that patients go through as they seek health services.
“We have seen people besmirching KNH on social media putting blames on us while they have no knowledge of the problems the hospital is going through, we initiated adopt a patient and adopt a bed programme to help the needy people in society who are unable to pay for their hospital bills,” Kamau revealed.
