Light aircraft makes emergency landing in Kisumu

A light aircraft made an emergency landing at the Kisumu International Airport (KIA) on Thursday night.

The plane with two people on board reportedly landed 'with a thud' after developing mechanical problems.

It's landing gear failed, making it unable to land on the runaway.

The occupants, an instructor and a trainee pilot were rushed to the Agha Khan hospital Kisumu, and are said to be in a stable condition.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed the incident via a tweet on Thursday night.

"We would like to confirm that a light aircraft has had an emergency landing at Kisumu International Airport after suffering landing gear failure. Both occupants are safe & have been rushed to hospital for precautionary medical assessment."

Residents of Kisumu especially those who reside near the airport got concerned, after the plane went round for hours before the emergency landing.

"A plane is hovering here a lot. What may be going on?" a resident shared on social media at about 9.54pm.

Others thought it was as security drill, like the one recently conducted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi.
