Four people in Kisima village of Trans Mara west sub-county were hospitalized after they were struck by lightning while sleeping in their house.

The area chief Francis Ntukusoi said the lightning struck late at night causing serious injuries to the four family members who were sleeping at the time of the incident.

“Lightning struck their house as the family members slept, and lucky enough, no one died. Three of the affected are adults and a one-year-old child. We managed to rush them to the hospital where they are receiving medication," Ntukusoi said.

He at the same time urged residents to avoid crossing flooded rivers and ensure their children were indoors during the rainy season to avert dangers posed by the rainy weather.

Ntukusoi also asked the county government to install lightning arrestors in areas that were prone to thunderstorms and lightning.

“I call upon the government to install thunderstorm arrestors in areas that are commonly struck by lightning,” he said.

Last month, one person died while another was left fighting for his life in the hospital after they were struck by lightning at Triangle Shopping Center near the Maasai Mau Forest in Narok South Sub County.

The County Director of Meteorological Services Peter Karanja confirmed most parts of the county are likely to receive rainfall with some parts of Trans Mara and Narok North receiving 10mm to 50mm this week.

According to the weatherman, the mornings are likely to be generally sunny but occasional rains may occur in a few places.

The forecast showed that afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur in several places with nights being partly cloudy though showers may occur over a few places.
