Machakos University has installed a second Vice Chancellor Prof. Joyce Jepkirui Agalo PhD, who takes over from Prof. Lucy Irungu who has served for the past five years.

Speaking during at Machakos University grounds, VC Jepkirui who had served as Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics and Student Affairs, said that she is familiar with the operations and challenges of the University.

The VC added that she was aware of what was expected of her as the new Vice Chancellor hence she did not underestimate the responsibilities involved and called for everyone’s support in management of the university affairs.

“As the new VC, I will need the unwavering support, cooperation and trust from all the parties as I pledge to serve you well and I will focus on excellence and performance,” added the VC.

VC Jepkirui noted that there was enormous potential in Machakos University that needed to be tapped so that they could contribute both nationally and globally agenda.

She affirmed that students were their main stakeholders and the reason for the existence of the University.

“My number one priority therefore is to ensure students have an enriching experience while undertaking their studies which will ensure they graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge that will provide solutions to the challenges faced by society,” said VC Jepkirui.

Jepkirui said she would like to create a conducive work environment because she is aware that the strength of an institution is determined by the calibre of its human resource and a motivated workforce would propel the institution higher academically and professionally.

She noted that their core mandate as a University is teaching, research and community service and she would ensure quality of service in academic programmes, research projects and innovation.

The VC promised to enhance collaboration with the National and County Government and all the relevant partners.

Jepkirui pointed out that they needed excellent facilities and she is focused in coordinating research and resource mobilization efforts to secure infrastructure development to address the needs of the growing student population at the University.

“During my leadership, great focus will be put in developing sustainable structures, nurturing and innovating a research environment, growing student numbers and sound governance practices which will encourage accountability and high standards of integrity,” pointed VC Jepkirui.

“I pray and hope that God will give me the wisdom, good health and knowledge to diligently serve this institution,” said Jepkirui.
