South Gem Ward Member of the County Assembly was last evening forced to flee a funeral service in his Ward in critical condition, after unknown people stabbed him, following an altercation over the local politics.

Brian Anyango Obiero, alias Otuom Polo, was forced to take to his heels from the graveside during the funeral of the late Stephen Pinda Aloo at pap Kapinda in Rera Sub-location, while bleeding profusely from the stab wounds, with irate members of the public in tow.

The MCA had to jump onto a motorcycle which sped-off from the scene, saving him from the marauding crowd, who were baying from his blood.

The MCA later reported the matter at Akala Police Station before being rushed to a hospital in Kisumu.

Earlier before the incident that saw mourners run helter-skelter, the MCA was involved in exchange with local residents over his recent decision to work with the area Member of Parliament, Elisha Odhiambo, who has now and again declared support for the Kenya kwanza government.

The residents, led by Kisumu City Manager, Abala Wanga, had told the MCA, who was elected barely seven months ago on an Independent ticket, to rethink his decision as the public was not with him and the MP.

Abala Wanga, said that he had been tasked by the ODM leadership to champion the party’s activities in the Constituency, following the sitting MP’s decision.

But an adamant, Otuom Polo, maintained that Elisha Odhiambo, was still the people’s representative and will continue working for the next four people weather some people like it or not.

Amid boos and heckling, the MCA went ahead to deliver his speech and the microphone had to be grabbed from his hands.

Gem Sub-county Police Commander, Cecilia Kemboi, confirmed the incident, saying that the MCA suffered stabs on the buttocks, hands and had swollen eyes.

She said that the MCA was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, adding that no suspect has been arrested so far.

“We are doing every effort to bring the culprits to justice” said the Sub-county Police Commander, adding that the police have launched investigations.
