Moses Kuria 'responds' to DP Gachagua

By Peter Ochieng

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Trade and Industrialisation Moses Kuria on Monday morning insisted that Kenyans should not expect reprieve any time from now, as far as the price of fuel is concerned.

In what seems to be a response to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kuria said fuel prices in the world for the better part of this year are already set.

"August fuel stocks will land in October. The cost is well known and its scientific. September shipments will land in November. Costs are also known. From there we move to Winter in the US and expected stock piles. And then the bilateral arrangements between Saudis and Russia on the one side and China and India on the other hand plus ongoing oil cuts," he wrote in a statement on X.

"As Minister responsible for Private Sector mine is to advise business based on science not truthful voodoo," added the vocal CS.

Over the weekend, the former Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) told Kenyans 'talking too much' about increased fuel prices on social media to dig theirs.

His remarks attracted the wrath of Kenyans online among them Gachagua, who seemingly called him out for being 'reckless, irresponsible and insensitive.'

"I want to call upon fellow leaders, particularly those that our President, H.E Dr @WilliamsRuto, has given the privilege to serve Kenyans to exercise caution in addressing their employer- the people of Kenya. It is Insensitive to talk down on the people," said the DP on his arrival back in the country from Colombia.

"I would like to remind them that although the people of Kenya did not employ them directly, they decisively elected H.E President William Ruto, who in turn appointed them Cabinet Secretaries and Advisors. And hence by virtue of this -they are employed by Kenyans. You do not address your employer with arrogance. Do so with humility and decorum. Kenyans, like the rest of the world, are going through difficult economic times and leaders should address them with sensitivity and empathy."

Last week, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) increased the price of Super Petrol, Diesel and kerosene by between Sh17 and Sh33.
