North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood today, Monday 15, joined other leaders from Meru County in welcoming Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria's football tournament that will involve teams from ten counties within the Mount Kenya region.

Addressing the media at Kinoru stadium, the MP who was flanked by a section of MCAs from Meru County Assembly, Football Kenya Federation leaders as well as representatives of football teams termed the tournament as an ideal opportunity where young people will showcase their talents, especially to the scouts who will be available during the events.

He said they were hopeful that several young people from Meru County would use the platform to showcase their prowess and eventually be picked by Kenya's premier league clubs for further training.

"We want to categorically say that we are ready for the tournament and we are telling CS Kuria to ignore those who were inciting residents against the event," said Mr Dawood adding that sports should not be linked to politics whatsoever.

He added, "those who are against Moses Kuria's football tournament should know that they are killing the talents of our young people and should stay away from the negative criticism. This is not a platform to bring political vendetta."

He said politicians should allow talents to be grown in Meru by taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself regardless of who the sponsor is.

Mr Denis Kirimi, a representative of one of the Meru teams said they had already started intensive pieces of training as they await the tournament, with hopes that they will emerge the winners.

The tournament will kick off on February 4, and the grand winner will take home a grand prize of Sh5 million with the runner taking home Sh3.3 million, while the third position team will get Sh1 million.

According to Kuria, the tournament is meant to mentor and counsel the youth in the Mount Kenya region which will have 64 constituency combined teams.
