NBA opens office in Nairobi

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has officially opened its offices in Nairobi on Wednesday, 29 November, 2023. 

The Nairobi office adds the total number of NBA offices in Africa to four with previously established offices in Johannesburg, Lagos and Cairo. 

"NBA has expanded its presence in Africa by opening an office in Nairobi, Kenya 

The Nairobi office joins the league’s Johannesburg, Lagos, and Cairo offices and will expand the league’s existing efforts in the African region." NBA Africa said in a statement on Facebook. 

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed had issued a press statement disclosing a partnership between the NBA and the government of Kenya which would steer the establishment of an NBA office in Nairobi. 

Hussein Mohammed disclosed that Kenya had signed an MoU with the basketball association during the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. 

Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Basketball Association that will see phenomenal development of Basketball in Kenya," said Mohamed.

President William Ruto was present during the signing of the agreement accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba .

The agreement is also expected to culminate in "School and community-based grassroots talent development under the Talanta Hela Initiative, including training of teachers as certified basketball coaches and scouts. 

The partnership will likewise result in the upgrading of local basketball infrastructure, which will encompass the construction of basketball courts in schools and communities around the country.
