Siaya Governor, James Orengo, has warned of serious repercussions, should the ongoing onslaught on the judiciary by the Executive not be brought to a halt.

According to Orengo, Kenyans will not allow President William Ruto, to continue intimidating courts.

Speaking at Nyadorera market in Usonga Uard after a tour of development projects and officially opening the market, Orengo said that the President was not above the law and should leave the courts to function independently without interference or intimidation.

He said the country risked degenerating into a lawless society, should those tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that everyone becomes a law-abiding citizen, take the lead in breaking the law and going against the Constitution.

“There will be serious problems in this country if there is no freedom of the judiciary and that is why the President and his brigade must allow the judiciary, to perform its duty without interference,” said Orengo.

He challenged Ruto and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, to follow the laid down procedure of launching complaints against the judicial officers, adding that in their positions, they are expected to be in the forefront in championing the rule of law.

“Much as there could be corrupt judges, this should not be used to condemn and intimidate the entire judiciary,” he said.

Among the projects that Orengo launched during his tour of Siaya township and Usonga Wards are the construction of the bitumen standard of the Siaya town- Rabango road, the installation of a rice mill at Siriwo, and the official opening of Uhembo Early Childhood Development Center among others.

He was flanked by Siaya County Secretary, Joseph Ogutu and members of County Assembly for Township Ward, Obiero Otare and his Usonga counterpart, Sylvester Madialo, among others.
