Children rights must be protected even as they leave school for December holiday Brian Saidi Rachuonyo south Sub County children officer has said.

He called on parents to have positive parenting and to be vigilant against people who are planning to abuse children over the holiday.

“Children must protected at all cost,” he said.

Mr Saidi said all children must be protected from all forms of abuse which they may be going through saying the abuses usually come from people very close to the children.

He explained people should guard against three forms of abuse to protect children.

“There is familiar abuse where children are abused in the family with the people who are supposed to protect them,” he said adding we should ensure our family is a safe space for our children.

He said as we close school there are parents who are planning to send their children to their distant relatives where some are going to be abused.

The officer called this extra familiar abuse and warned parents to be responsible to their children and be close to them.

“The last form of child abuse is institutional abuse, abuse that take place within institutions,” he said.

He told parents to be careful and watch over their children in case there is night vigil or Kesha night as they are popularly known since some children are abused at Kesha nights.

He said even in schools where children are learning abuse of children too takes place there.

“Already some Teachers have been taken to court as perpetrators of children abuse,” he said.

The children officer was addressing parents, learners, teachers and other government officials at Oyugis primary school during probation case committee tree planting event.

He asked parents to have what he termed as positive parenting by knowing where their children are and what they are doing.

The officer warned children too to be responsible, know their rights, and let their parents know where they are.

“We are cautioning you against just roaming about in towns, let your parents know where you are, as some of the children are being trafficked,” he said.
