Police retrieve body of a 35-year-old man in Lolgorian

Police in Trans Mara South Sub County have recovered the body of a man that was found floating in a well within Lolgorian Township.

Narok County Police Commander Kizito Mutoro said the body of the deceased estimated to be aged in his mid-thirties had no visible injuries and is yet to be identified.

He called on the members of the public who have lost their relatives or friends to visit Lolgorian Level four hospital morgue, where the deceased is lying to help in identifying the deceased.

“The body was spotted by members of the public in a plot belonging to Moseka Kanoi. The residents reported to the police who later rushed to the scene and found the body floating in the water,” he said.

He confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of drowning as the man could have committed suicide, drowned accidently or could have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the well.

According to World Health Organization (WHO) data published in 2020, drowning deaths in Kenya reached 1,200 or 0.46 percent of total deaths, placing Kenya number 103 in drownings in the World.

According to the report globally, drowning claims more than 236, 000 lives each year with more than 90 percent of drowning deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries, with children under five being at the highest risk.

The report said these deaths are frequently linked to daily, routine activities, such as bathing, collecting water for domestic use, traveling over water on boats or ferries, and fishing.

It said the impacts of seasonal or extreme weather events are also a frequent cause of drowning and these impacts are largely preventable through a number of interventions among them, placing barriers on water points, controlling access to water and teaching children basic swimming skills.
