Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda wants President William Ruto to use his visit to Nyanza to broker lasting peace at the troubled Kericho-Sondu border where violence has been raging.
Ojienda vowed that as Kisumu leaders, they will prioritize brokering lasting peace at the conflict-torn Sondu border atop their concerns to the President during his visit to Nyanza and appeal to him to beef up security at the troubled border.
Ojienda criticized some of the leaders from Nyanza who have been against President Ruto visiting Nyanza due to the ongoing conflict at Sondu.
“Now when the Sondu conflict flares and rages is the opportune time for the President to visit the area and ensure that he brokers lasting peace in the ever troubled border,” noted Ojienda.
“Now is the right time for the President to stamp his authority and quell the conflict and ensure that perpetrators of the chaos face the law and the politicians that instigate the chaos are conclusively dealt with,” said Ojienda.
Ojienda pointed out that the President’s visit will be a conduit for channeling development initiatives to the Nyanza region including providing the opportunity to directly engage with the local leaders on various development initiatives.
“We will be engaging the President in charting the way forward on the development front particularly on improving our bad roads and on the ailing rice and sugar sectors, exploiting the blue economy and roping in Nyanza on the country’s development map,” Ojienda pointed out.
The President is, among other flagship projects expected to commission the fish processing plant at Kabonyo Kanyagwal established at a cost of Sh 1 billion during the Kisumu visit.
The President is also scheduled to commission the launch of dykes projects targeting to once and for all end the perennial flooding menace in Nyando which Fisheries PS Muthoni and PS Raymond Omollo said will be a conduit for massive job opportunities for the Luo youth.
Leaders from Nyanza have passionately appealed to the Luo nation to give the President a rousing welcome since his visit is laden with many goodies for the benefit of the entire Luo nation and noted that anything negative will only negatively impact on the image of Raila Odinga.
