county firefighters alongside a team from St. John Ambulance have benefitted from a four-day firefighting training and ended yesterday in Nyeri town.

The newly trained fire fighters will now form the St. John Ambulance, Nyeri County Fire Brigade Division - Central Region.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the training, the Director Social Services Monica Thumbi thanked St. John Ambulance for partnering with Nyeri County for equipping the firefighters with the necessary skills to enable them serve the community better through prompt response to emergencies.

Thumbi said firefighting is a perilous work, with inherent risks that few other professions could match, hence the reason why it is essential to ensure that the firefighters are equipped with the necessary knowledge and equipment to keep themselves and the community safe.

She underscored the dedication of the team in keeping the residents safe, noting that the fire fighters have learned critical First Aid skills that would be beneficial during emergency situations which they encounter during their line of duty from basic bandaging techniques to more advanced techniques.

Thumbi said the team has shown a tremendous level of understanding and dedication towards the training thus the Department should continually invest in equipment to guarantee adequate preparedness.

The Director also acknowledged the great effort by the County Government led Governor Mutahi Kahiga by recognizing the importance of capacity building of the staff through training which empowers them with the necessary skills and knowledge resulting in improved productivity, timeliness, excellence, safety and efficiency in service delivery.

Deputy Director Administrative Services Pauline Ndegwa congratulated all the firefighters who have completed the training program successfully and thanked them for their hard work and dedication to this noble profession.
