Police in Eldama Ravine are investigating a murder puzzle after the body of a man believed to be a teacher was discovered rotting in the Tripkatoi Forest, Eldama Ravine.

According to the area Sub-county police commander, Joseph Ongaya, they received a report from the Torongo area chief that residents who were looking for their cattle found a body dangling from a tree in the middle of the forest.

“The Torongo Police Station officers went to the scene which is about 10 kilometres from the station and retrieved the body which was hanging by a rope on a tree,” said Mr Ongaya.

The police boss suspected a possible suicide even though no suicide note was found but reiterated that the matter is still under investigation.

Ongaya added that they found documents in the deceased's pockets including a TSC card number and an identity card which they will use to trace the deceased’s home and relatives.

He added that the body which had started decomposing had visible injuries on the neck which were occasioned by the rope.

Preliminary information indicated that the man may have been a head teacher at a school in Njoro in the neighbouring Nakuru county but could not divulge more details until the family of the deceased was informed of the tragedy.

“It is still a puzzle how he travelled that far to come and commit suicide inside a forest that may be far from his home and place of work,” added Mr Ongaya.

Residents of Tripkatoi are still reeling in shock as they have not witnessed such incidents in the past.

They say that the man is not from the area even as the identity card found with him suggested he could be from Baringo central sub-county.

The body was taken to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation as investigations into the incident continues.
