By Peter Ochieng
Football Kenya Federation (FKK) Premier League defending champions Tusker FC and league leaders Gor Mahia, are in a battle to win the title.
The 2022/2023 season concludes on Sunday, with both teams needing wins in their final matches to stand a chance of going home as champions.
Gor Mahia lead the standings with 67 points.
Tusker is second with 66, while Police FC and Nzoia Sugar occupy the third and fourth positions respectively with 63 points a piece.
Tusker will conclude the season with a game against relegated side Vihiga Bullets, while K'Ogallo - to mean Gor Mahia will be up against Nairobi City Stars.
A win will hand Gor Mahia the 20th league title, while a win for the Brewers will successfully secure title defense.
Tusker FC skipper Humphrey Ochieng Mieno wants his colleagues to dig deeper, secure a win and wait to see what springs forth out of the Gor Mahia, City Stars clash.
“We still have to keep our heads high and win the game,” said Mieno.
In the event Tusker fails to defend FKF PL title, another chance of winning something this season will present itself on 1st July, 2023 when the Brewers face Kakamega Homeboyz in the Mozzart Bet Cup final.
However, Mieno wants his teammates to focus on the league match first.
“We have a league game to play first. We are thinking about the next match and not the Cup final,” said the midfielder.
