Two men were today arraigned at Loitoktok law court for being found in possession of ivory tusks illegally.

Raymond Muthini and Duncan Ndichu who appeared before Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku were charged that on January 6, this year at Rombo area, they were found with ivory tusks weighing 7.7kgs.

According to the prosecution, on the material day Ndichu who was employed as a gardener in Rombo informed his employer of his friend who had ivory which he had kept for five years.

His employer told him to inform his friend who was by then in Taita Taveta to bring the ivory for him to buy; meanwhile he alerted Kenya Wildlife Service Officers.

When Muthini arrived the two were arrested with the consignment and escorted to Rombo police Station and charged with the offence.

In court the two have pleaded guilty to the charges, however the court directed that they be remanded at Rombo police station until January 15 as they consider their plea owing to the weight of the matter given that the two face a sentence of not less than five years in jail or a fine of Sh1 million if convicted of the offence.
