Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has asked the government to compensate close to 25,000 people, whose houses and properties have been demolished in the Mavoko area, Machakos County.

Kalonzo said the affected residents have suffered unimaginable losses following the demolitions on the disputed land belonging to East Africa Portland Cement Company.

Speaking at the ACK Church in Machakos, the Wiper leader condemned the ongoing demolition exercise terming it as a violation of human rights.

"This is a complete mess, schools have not been spared and the fate of candidates who are expected to sit for national exams has been thrown into limbo," he said.

Kalonzo was accompanied by other Azimio leaders, including Eugene Wamalwa, Jeremiah Kioni, former governors Mwangi wa Iria and Mureithi Nderitu faulted the government for carrying out the evictions and asked President William Ruto to rescind the decision.

Also present was Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and her Deputy, Francis Mwangangi, Senator Agnes Kavindu, Woman Representative Kamene Kasimbi, and Makueni MP Susan Kiamba.

The Wiper leader assured that Azimio would offer support to the affected families and urged them to remain strong.

"We know the situation is dire but do not lose hope in life, someone will pay for this damage," he added.

Wa Iria called on Kenyans whose houses had been demolished elsewhere to be enjoined in the Mavoko case to help stop further demolitions.

The leaders also attended the court ruling on the evictions at the Machakos Environment and Lands High Court, as a show of solidarity with the victims.
