The National Executive Chair for boda boda Association of Kenya Kevin Mbadi has called upon all operators to stand with the government of the day.
The chair said the duty of the association is to ensure its people are working according to the laws of the country and urged the boda boda community to support President William Ruto's administration and shun violence.
He noted that they cannot benefit from the government if they are on the opposing side of the leadership.
"I call upon all the boda boda operators in the country to stand united and support the government. If we continue to create chaos, we will be at the losing end in terms of benefits as a sector," he said.
Mbadi was speaking in Mbita town during the inauguration of the Suba North Sub-County boda boda chairman Fredrick Ogeda.
He noted for a long time boda boda operators have been viewed as unruly and law breakers, adding that it was for this reason that the association stepped in to streamline the sector.
"We have been in many counties to install leadership for the streamlining of the boda boda sector which for a long time has been viewed in a negative light," said the chair who further urged them to respect their trade and view it as their office.
He appreciated the Ministry of Interior through the Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo saying he has supported the boda boda community in ensuring they work in harmony with security agents within the country.
On the proposed fuel tax increment, he asked the government to reconsider the 16 per cent Value Added Tax saying the boda boda sector who solely depend on the commodity will not be able to run the business.
"The government should give us a discount and not increase the VAT because a lot of youth will be out of business if the proposal is approved by the parliament," he said.
Ogeda on his part urged the boda boda fraternity to stop following politicians and instead work for their own money.
"I want my people to be self-dependent by working to earn their own money," he stated.
He thanked the Mbita boda boda community for having elected him as their chair and promised to deliver.
