Government to Stabilize Pay for Coffee Farmers

The government will Stabilize coffee prices to encourage the crop farmers in the country to increase the yield.

 Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises [MSME] Development Cabinet Secretary, Simon Chelugui, disclosed that coffee farmers will be expected to join a revolving fund program that will be the source for maintaining the coffee cherry price at Sh 80 per kilogram. 

 "The farmers will be paid Sh 80 per cherry delivered at the factory by the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union within five days," said the CS.

 The CS disclosed that the government has identified the major challenges facing the coffee farming sector and is in the process of addressing them to revive the industry.

He pointed out that the challenges include limited coffee research and a limited market which are being addressed by the government.

Present during the event were the Principal Secretary, State of Department for Co-operatives Patrick Kilemi, Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njuki, the County Woman Rep Susan Ngugi, and the Chuka/Igambang'oombe Mp Patrick Munene.
