Five computers, a printer, and a tablet worth over 750,000 were stolen from Makueni County Referral Hospital (MCRH) on Thursday night.
Speaking to the media on Friday the Department of Health Executive Committee Member (ECM) Dr. Paul Musila disclosed that the items were stolen from the Palliative Care, Records, and Citiscan Departments by unknown people.
However, Dr. Musila revealed that three of his officers had recorded statements with the police concerning the theft that took place on Thursday night at an unknown time.
"Today at 7 am when those tasked with cleaning reported for work, they found the doors to the departments broken and the computers and accessories missing," said Dr. Musila while addressing the media at MCRH.
"Three officers from the departments have recorded statements with the police. The missing computers will not affect work since we have backup and officers have laptops to use," he added.
However, the CECM said that the motive for targeting the three departments could not be established while adding that the police are investigating the incident.
When contacted for comment, Makueni Subcounty Police Commander Winnie Siele confirmed the theft saying no arrest has been made yet.
