West Pokot County Governor Simon Kachapin has issued a notice to those who intend to disrupt  peace in the County.

Kachapin has said that the move to worsen security in the county is one of the obstacles that make development stagnate.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Kachapin said that lack of security drives away investors in the county.

Unlike Kachapin, West Pokot has long had a negative image in the public eye.

However, Kachapin has explained that now the county has improved security and has started to take progressive steps as investors have started approaching.

On the other hand, he praised the residents of the county for embracing unity and peace as they have shown a willingness to accept investors in the county for the sake of development.

In addition, the governor has congratulated the investors who have already taken steps to invest in the county, mentioning that it is a sign of having confidence in the development of the county.

"You know West Pokot has had negative publicity for a long time, so investors having the confidence to come and invest in this county is something that everyone should enjoy," said Kachapin.

The governor has once again warned people who are speaking misleading words about the county to stop.

He has made it clear that the way other counties have taken progressive steps and those that continue to take steps forward for investment from outside and inside, then that is how West Pokot county needs such development.

"I want to appeal to all those who speak badly to think hard," warned Kachapin.

"Because many counties in this part of Kenya have had investors, they have had many industries, and it was a request from the people of West Pokot and even that part of Sebit, they welcomed the investor with open arms," added the governor.

The governor has emphasized the issue of development in the county that will benefit the residents and enhance their living standards and also contribute to the growth of the national economy.

He has encouraged local and foreign investors to come in large numbers to start businesses and other development projects in the county.

However, Kachapin asked stakeholders and investors to use an appropriate method to solve the challenges facing the county instead of using a method that will worsen the security of the county.

"If there are problems, we leaders and other stakeholders will sit down with any investor if there are issues and we want to, but that of going to disrupt peace is a way that I, as governor, cannot support at all," warned Kachapin.

West Pokot County has previously reported frequent cases of livestock theft, internal conflicts and  warfare with neighboring counties over pasture and water.

The Clinkerisation factory project built in West Pokot, after being approved by President William Ruto, has generated many job opportunities in West Pokot, especially Sebit.
