Temporary traffic disruption at Juja Highpoint on Thika Superhighway
By Robert Mutasi
The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a temporary partial closure of the Thika Superhighway at Juja Highpoint, Centurion, to facilitate the construction of a footbridge.
The disruption will occur starting Thursday, December 12, 2024, through Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily.
In its public notice on December 5, 2024, KeNHA announced that the project would boost pedestrian safety along the busy highway.
Part of the road is to be closed to pave the way for construction work to ensure progress without too much inconvenience for motorists.
It should be noted that during the work, traffic management plans would take effect to minimize inconvenience for road users.
Nairobi-bound traffic will be diverted to pass behind Lexo Petrol Station before joining back on the highway.
On the contrary, Thika-bound traffic will be diverted behind Centurion Hotel before connecting to the superhighway.
There will be visible signage and road marshals to guide motorists through these diversions.
KeNHA has advised the public to exercise caution while using the affected stretches. Motorists have been asked to follow the provided traffic management plan, cooperate with law enforcement officers, and remain vigilant to avoid any mishaps.
The agency has emphasized its commitment to improving road safety and connectivity across the country, encouraging patience and understanding from all stakeholders during the disruption period.
The footbridge construction aligns with ongoing efforts to reduce pedestrian-related accidents on major highways.
KeNHA also appealed to motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra time for possible delays caused by the diversions.
They assured the public that every effort is being made to complete the works promptly and reopen the road sections as scheduled.
For more information or clarification, KeNHA has availed all contact details, including the toll-free line, 0800-211-244, and the customer care number, 0700-423-606.
The agency continues to ensure that the use of roads is improved for all users and prioritizes safety.
Motorists and residents in the affected area are advised to seek more information and cooperate with the authorities on site for an easy transition during the construction period.
