Court orders mental assessment for murder suspect

The High Court in Machakos has ordered that the main suspect in the murder of Harriet Moraa, a first-year student at Machakos University should undergo a mental assessment.
The suspect, Chrispine Omondi appeared before Justice Francis Olel but did not take plea.
Justice Olel directed that Omondi, a final year Engineering-student at the same university be examined at the Machakos Level Five Hospital to determine if he is fit to stand trial.
The court also directed that a state counsel be assigned to represent the suspect.
He will remain in remand at the Machakos GK Prison until February 14 when he is expected to take plea.
Omondi was arrested on suspicion of killing Moraa his girlfriend, in a rental house in Katoloni estate, Machakos town on January 8.
Moraa is said to have visited the suspect before her body was later found in the suspect 's rental house on January 9.
