The Narok County Government has assured the residents, especially those within the town, traders and transport operators that they will start working on solving the congestion problem.

Traffic has become one of the biggest menaces in Narok town.

Addressing the press, on Monday, August 5, 2024, the County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia, said the traffic has been greatly contributed by businessmen.

Lotiatia said that traders are now selling their products alongside the road and some even occupy a large part of the road.

"There are people who have taken the streets as their plots," stated Lotiatia.

Commissioner Lotiatia claimed that the traders give drivers the difficult task of navigating through town and this makes their daily activities extremely hard.

To reduce congestion in the city, Lotiatia said they will have to evict the traders who run their businesses on the side of the road.

Removing them from the road will enable transport operations to be carried out in a more efficient and hassle-free manner.

In addition, Lotiatia clarified that if traders are evicted from the road, they will give passers-by a good chance to pass.

The commissioner issued a notice to those involved and politely asked them to leave as soon as possible to allow vehicles and pedestrians to pass.

"Let our road be clear, let it be a road, do business off the road. People should pass by and use it to go about their business," he said.

He emphasized that the road areas are not conducive places for doing business.

However, Lotiatia has urged the businessmen to find another safe place to do their business there.

"Even if it's a business, find a place where it's convenient for you to do business, not to go on the road," urged the Commissioner.

He explained that the problem of congestion in Narok may greatly hinder the development of the county.

The commissioner sent a stern warning to those involved and stated that strict legal action would be taken should they refuse to leave.
