Need for disaster risk management to combat El Niño threats - PS Omollo

The Government through the Ministry of Interior and National Administration has emphasized on the need to practice safe hygiene and clean drinking water particularly around camps and homesteads to reduce threats posed by the Aftermath of the El Nino rains.
Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo during an assessment tour of the aftermath of the El Nino rains on Tana River County on Saturday urged residents to maintain vigilance on floods causing havoc as he drummed up more support for humanitarian relief in flood prone regions.
Omollo accompanied by the County Commissioner, Mr. Mohamed Noor, Senator Hon. Danson Mungatana, Garsen MP, Hon. Ali Wario and former Governor Hussein Dado,met the leaders and locals of Tana River County.
The PS visited Tana River, which was the worst affected County, and evaluated areas including Mbadi village, the Minjila-Lamu road as well as Imani primary school where he held productive discussions with the local security and County leadership highlighting the significant progress made in managing the disaster situation.
National Government Administrative Officers - NGAOS have also been tasked with gathering immediate relief requirements for schools In light of their reopening.
Appreciating the residents for their active involvement during the rescue operations, Dr. Omollo acknowledged the support of both the national and county governments, and other non-governmental organizations that assisted in aid distribution, health initiatives and infrastructural repairs.
Further, he emphasized the need for more support in disaster and risk management and reduction.
