Donkey meat hawked in Hola Town

Tana River Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Peter ole Masaa has cautioned residents against buying meat products being hawked at their doorstep warning for their own good.

He expressed fears that chances were high the meat products being peddled were likely to be meat from nine donkeys that were recently killed in the area last Friday night.

Speaking to the press in his Hola office, Ole Masaa said, the donkeys were slaughtered in the villages of Mikinduni, Kone, and Malindi ya Ngwena, and the meat carried in sacks is being sold from house to house. 

Mr. Ole Masaa warned the area residents against the donkey meat that is not inspected by the veterinary doctors saying, they may suffer from unknown animal diseases. 

He also said nobody has reported the disappearance of his or her donkeys but called on the chiefs, Assistant chiefs and village elders to monitor those selling the donkey meat and report them to police for action.
