A somber mood has engulfed Burumba location following the death of one of the boda boda riders Wedneday night.

Residents woke up to a rude shock when they found the body of David Ochieng’ dumped in a thicket within the area.

‘It seems the killers used an axe to cut him in the head before being dumped at the crime scene,” said one of the residents.

Potus Okwiri, a resident, lamented that this was the fifth incident in the area within just the duration of one month.

‘As we speak, the four bodies are still lying in the mortuary,’ he said, urging the government to provide security to the locals.

Busia County chairman of boda boda riders Association Boniface Okumu threatened to take the law into their hands if security agencies led by the County Commissioner do not come to their rescue

’Whenever we stage peaceful demonstrations at the police station, we are always told that security will be beefed up but the spate of killings still continues,’ he said.

Okumu asked the riders to suspend their late night operations until security is restored.

"We are going to work closely with our colleagues in the sector to flush out those who are engaging in such killings,” he said, warning that those found will not be taken to the police station.

Township location Acting Chief Joseph Mulama confirmed the incident adding that this is the second within a period of less than two weeks.

"Last Saturday, we found one rider killed and the body dumped at Tubelesi bridge but the body could not be identified until yesterday when the family members came and established that he was a resident of Teso South Sub County,’ he said.

Mulama stated that the mode of the killing was similar to today’s incident suspecting that there must be a particular group behind the illegal act.

‘This area seems to have been set aside as a dumping site by the criminals,’ he said.

He urged the local residents to remain calm as the government continues with investigations.

The official at the same time advised the riders to operate within the stipulated time by the government and allow security officers carry out patrols at night.

The body of the deceased was moved to Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
