Members of Maua Business Association have lauded President Dr. William Ruto for indicating that he was ready to have a sitting with opposition leader Raila Odinga discuss various issues facing the country including the high cost of living.
Led by Nominated MCA Ms. Dorsen Kagwiria who has vast investments in the town, the businesspeople said the dialogue between the two leaders will be a game changer to performance of businesses in the country.
“As businesspeople, we have invested a lot in Maua and other towns and we wish to have a peaceful environment to run our businesses devoid of demonstrations leading to destruction of property,” said Kagwiria.
This comes after a tweet by the President on Tuesday indicated that he was ready to meet the opposition leader for a conversation.
The tweet read; “My friends @RailaOdinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent. I am back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience. WSR”.
But Kagwiria noted that the two leaders should only focus on ways of easing the high cost of living which was affecting every Kenyan and not any other selfish political issues
“As a community, we welcome dialogue between the President and the opposition leader but we don’t want it to come out later that there were personal interests especially from Mr Odinga. We are a democratic country and leaders should respect the decision that was made by the majority of Kenyans at the ballot,” said Kagwiria.
Going by the tweet, the businesspeople believe that the two leaders will soon meet and have a fruitful conversation that will take the country forward in terms of economic development.
