Calm is slowly returning to Chuka town after a series of protests against the killing of chairman of boda boda  association Willis Mugambi on Saturday evening.

Mugambi was shot dead in the chest by police as they battled demonstrators during Saturday demonstrations following the killing of Daniel Mutembei from Nkwego village.

Several shops remained closed on Tuesday with anti-riots police guarding government offices and patrolling all over town.

The protesters wanted a police officer based in Runyenjes Police Station brought to justice after shooting Mugambi.

Earlier on, Eastern Regional police boss Rono Bunei confirmed that Tharaka Nithi police commander Donatha Kiplagat and Chuka OCS Francisca Mbithe have been transferred following the three days protests over the killing of Mugambi.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
