Kisii County Commissioner (CC), Tom Anjere, has called upon residents to prioritize peace in order to foster unity and security within the County,

The Commissioner was addressing leaders and local stakeholders during an event at Itierio Secondary School in Kisii, organised to discuss pressing matters affecting the region.

Anjere highlighted the importance of community leaders, urging them to take an active role in maintaining harmony.

He further emphasized the need for collective action in identifying and addressing individuals involved in criminal activities within the County.

The commissioner encouraged community members to submit information anonymously about suspected wrongdoers.

“This could be done by writing down the names of potential culprits on paper and depositing them at designated collection points. This way, the sources’ identities would remain confidential,” he noted.

"The power of unity cannot be underestimated," Commissioner Anjere asserted. "By working together as a community, we can overcome challenges that affect our security and overall well-being. Identifying those responsible for causing harm should be a shared responsibility, and this can be achieved through anonymous reporting, “he added.

Addressing a growing concern, the County Commissioner touched upon the rise in suicide cases among the youth. He attributed this worrying trend to the mounting pressure stemming from their inability to repay loans taken to finance motorcycle purchases for the bodaboda business.

He urged for a comprehensive approach to tackle this issue, focusing on both financial literacy and support systems for the youth such as the Hustler Fund.

Commissioner Anjere, also directed his attention to government employees, urging them to prioritize their duty of serving the community.

He emphasized that creating an environment of open communication between government officers and the public is essential for ensuring the swift reporting of security cases.

“By fostering an atmosphere of trust and cooperation, he believed that instances of crime and threats to security could be promptly identified and resolved.

"The core function of government employees is to work for the betterment of our community. By engaging with the public, understanding their concerns, and facilitating effective communication channels, we can ensure that issues are addressed proactively," Commissioner Anjere stated.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose among the attendees. Community leaders and residents expressed their commitment to working together to enhance security, promote peace, and address challenges that have been affecting the County.
