National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) together with the CDF-NG office in Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe constituency, Tharaka Nithi County has initiated mass capturing of NHIF biometrics registration in a move to improve access to health care services in the region.

The exercise which is an initiative of Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene began in Magumoni location and aimed to register as many residents as possible.

The programme aims at improving health care services making them affordable and accessible to residents.

The exercise involved collection of data such as identification details and scanning of fingerprints with the elderly being given the first priority.

Speaking at the Magumoni Chief's office, personal assistant to the MP, Gilbert Muriuki said that the main initiative of the exercise is to boost quality health care services to residents.

"This initiative aims to help and improve health care services to our residents. We realized that majority of people do not have NHIF cards thus they are unable to afford treatment,” he said.

Muriuki appealed to those who don’t have an NHIF card to come out and register as soon as possible.

NHIF rolled out a series of improvements to their services including use of fingerprints to access treatment at health facilities. This means that one will not be required to carry the physical card.

Residents expressed their joy and appreciation saying that the initiative was going to provide better healthcare services and lessen their financial burdens.
