Over 200 interns have been hired to work in the county government of Nyeri for the next one year.
Speaking when he officially launched the fifth phase of the internship programme held at culture centre in Nyeri town Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the Internship program is one of the anchor programs for supporting the empowerment of youth in Nyeri County.
Kahiga said the Nyeri County Public Service Board received over 1, 500 applications when the positions were advertised and the applicants underwent rigorous interviews until 200 were selected.
He noted 37 of the interns have been selected from outside Nyeri County achieving the requirement for 30 percent of recruitment of persons not from the dominant community in the County.
This he said is in line with the provisions of the Kenya Constitution and the principles and values of Public Service of promoting national cohesion and afford opportunities for appointment, training and advancement to members of all ethnic groups.
“The success of the internship programme is evident as over 50 interns from the previous four cohorts have been able to secure employment in the County Government,’’ said Kahiga.
He urged the interns to remain dedicated in their work, and take full advantage of this platform which not only gives them a chance to bridge the gap between theory and practical but also to network.
John Mwangi a beneficially said he was happy to secure the internship saying that he will do his best so that even after the given period of one year he will be able to secure employment in the County government.
Another one Agnes Njeri said the internship will also give her a chance to network and give her a chance to learn and interact with many people.
