Eight candidates from Embu North Sub-County did not sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations that commenced today.
According to Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Walter Ngaira, four among the eight candidates disappeared without a trace after registering for the examinations early this year.
Speaking via a phone call, the DCC noted that their whereabouts remains unknown to date as they also disappeared from their homes.
He said two others who registered as private candidates did not turn up for the exams for unknown reasons, noting that there is nothing much they can do about it as they cannot force them to sit for the examinations.
Ngaira said that the remaining two are indisposed with one being admitted at Mathare National Teaching and Referral Hospital battling mental illness.
The other candidate from Kamama Boys, he said, requested to forego the examinations until next year as he has been unwell for some time and thus not prepared to take the examinations.
At the same time, the DCC said they were forced to use police land cruiser vehicles in some areas due to the poor state of the roads caused by the ongoing heavy rains.
He said the affected centers were those served by Manyatta-Kivwe-Kamviu marram road which has been rendered impassible as a result of the rains.
He, however, clarified that all examination materials arrived on time in all the examination centers as they had already put in place contingency measures to ensure timely delivery.
