Grief and sorrow has engulfed Kayogo village in North Sakwa Bondo Sub County after residents woke up to find an elderly woman burnt to death in her house Wednesday night.
The body of Catherina Obilo Ayoo, 98, was found by her son early Thursday when he went to open the door for her as he usually does.
According to an eye witness, Pastor Samuel Ndege, the deceased has been staying and sleeping alone in the house and it is suspected that she might have been trying to light her tin lamp, before the fire caught her bedding, causing her untimely death.
Ndege disclosed that her son usually ensures that the deceased is brought food in the morning, daytime and at night, before the door is closed for her to retire to bed.
He stated that the house however did not burn but only her beddings, resulting in head and chest burns that led to her death.
Abom sub-location assistant chief Phillip Chunga who confirmed the incident cleared suspicion that someone else may have committed the offence saying that her door was found intact as initially locked by the son.
Chunga also noted that it was not clear when exactly the incident occurred, since the house did not burn and no one would have suspected what had happened inside.
The body of the deceased was moved to Bondo mortuary by police officers from Bondo police station, even as investigations commenced.
