EPRA announces new fuel prices

The price of a litre of super petrol will remain unchanged for the next one month, as per the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
EPRA on Tuesday evenning announced new fuel prices, taking effect on 15th November, 20223 until another review is done in mid December.
"In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, EPRA Kenya has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th November 2023 to 14th December 2023," EPRA said in a statement.
The Authority elected to not to change the price of a litre of super petrol while reducing that of diesel and kerosene, perhaps after reading the public mood.
Kenyans expected prices of fuel to go up, especially after Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir recently said that a litre may soon retail at Sh100 due to the ongoing Hamas, Israel war, but Kenyans would here none of it.
"In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol remain unchanged while that of Diesel and Kerosene decrease by Sh2.00 per litre."
As such, the price of super petrol, diesel and kerosene Kerosene will retail at Sh217.36, Sh203.47 and Sh203.06 respectively effective midnight for the next 30 days.
"The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020," added the Authority.
EPRA noted that in order to cushion consumers from the spike in pump prices, the government had opted to stabilize pump prices for the November - December 2023 pricing cycle.
EPRA said the National Treasury had identified resources within the current resource envelope, to compensate Oil marketing Companies.
