At least 800 farmers at Kapelbok, Juluk and Nawepeto areas of Kaputir Ward, have benefited from seedlings that have been procured by VSF-Germany.

County Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation Janerose Tioko, yesterday launched training and distribution of the second batch of seedlings to farmer households in Kaputir.

Some of the seedlings that have been provided include tomatoes, cowpeas, kales, watermelon, and spinach.

She appreciated VSF-G for the donation and noted that the distribution of the seeds was in line with the county Governor’s agenda on food security as well as collaboration and strategic partnership.

The CCO said: “The County Government is committed to improving agriculture, especially along the riverine areas like Kapelbok. Through my Department, the Governor has set aside Sh3 Million meant to clear pros phis (a kind of weed) at Kapelbok, as an effort to expand acreage and higher yields"

Ag. Director for Agriculture Victor Lochee pointed out that the Department in partnership with Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP) was rehabilitating the main intake and canal for Kapelbok irrigation scheme.

This, he said, was to ensure the irrigation scheme has steady flow of water for irrigation.

He congratulated VSF-G for accepting to work in the bedridden insecurity belt and urged farmers to register in cooperative societies.

VSF-G Program Manager Peter Mutevu acknowledged good working relationship with the County Government and called for proper utilization of seeds ahead of the short rains.

Also present were County Coordinator for DPRNK Charles Ekeno, Sub-County Agricultural Officer Francis Emuto, Kaputir Ward Administrator Simon Koloi as well as Lolimo Francis and Simon Echom from VSF-G.
