Eleven gambling machines were confiscated and burnt at the Chiefs office in Machakos by the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) in a bid to rid the town of the illegal business.
Speaking to the press at the Administration offices, Assistant County Commissioner Central Division Jamal Ibrahim said that they raided several shops in town and confiscated the gambling machines that have been making children miss school to engage in illegal businesses.
“The gambling machines have caused several children to miss school since most of them were found in the gambling dens drinking illicit brew and misbehaving,” said Jamal.
He added that the raid would be ongoing as they plan to arrest more people who are involved in gambling in Machakos to reduce the level of crime in town.
Jamal warned the traders engaging in such businesses to stop as the NGAO team is coming for them.
He further added that they were also raiding Changaa dens operating in Machakos and so far, they have closed several bars in Kasinga, Machakos and Muvuti towns who were found without the operating licenses.
“The raid by the NGAO team is continuing because we raided some bars in Machakos, Kasinga and Muvuti and arrested some people who were selling Changaa and others who were operating bars without licenses and selling counterfeit liquor,” pointed Jamal.
He further warned those who are operating bars near schools and residential areas that they were supposed to be following the agreed rules or risk their bars being closed.
“We are supposed to have a meeting with bar operators and remind them of the rule that they are supposed to be 300 meters away from schools and residential areas or face severe consequences,” noted Jamal.
