Former Citizen TV news anchor Janet Mbugua has broken her silence; after news filtered through that she had turned down an offer to become Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s running mate, in the Kiambu County gubernatorial race.

Mbugua turned to twitter on Thursday, March 24, 2022 afternoon to explain to Kenyans, moreso, residents of Kiambu County why she declined the offer to serve as Kuria’s deputy, if elected governor during the August 09, 2022 polls.

“Thanks @HonMoses_Kuria for considering me capable to serve Kiambu County as Dep Gov. Indeed, active engagement in politics isn’t for me at the moment. I remain available in support of quality service to the good people of Kiambu & all of Kenya, more so vulnerable women & girls,” tweeted the former TV news anchor.  Earlier, Kuria used the same platforms to inform Kenyans that Mbugua had declined an opportunity to be his running mate, over what he termed as unforeseen emergencies.

“I am shattered. After scoring the highest marks in the talent search for Kiambu Deputy Governor, Janet Mbugua will not be taking up the job due to unforeseen personal emergencies that she has to attend to in the immediate term,” Kuria said.

The MP said that his administration will offer him another post, if he wins the gubernatorial seat.

“My administration will definitely find a way to benefit from @OfficialJMbugua experience and capacity in the future. I feel the loss. Janet is a huge inspiration for the youth, for professionals, for women and for young mothers of this country.”

The vocal MP had a few weeks ago invited interested female individuals to apply for the position of Deputy Governor, where Mbugua emerged top among those that applied.
