Jilted Kakamega woman murders rival

A Kakamega Court is set to sentence a woman who killed her rival with whom they were in a love triangle
Solphine Akhusama Mbuya who appeared before Lady Justice Sophie Chirchir pleaded guilty of killing Seline Nanzira Apando who was reportedly embroiled in love affair with her boyfriend.
The accused appeared before Lady Justice Chirchir pleaded guilty for the offence of manslaughter.
The accused recounted to court how he lost her temper and hatched a scheme to teach the deceased a lesson after spotting her with her boyfriend Shabir Lumbasi on the fateful day.
She said how she feared for her life two days after stabbing the deceased before she surrendered herself to the Shianda police.
The accused was charged with the offence of murder after surrendering herself at Shianda police station in Kakamega County on March 4, 2023.
The two lovers apparently enjoyed each other’s companion until about 7.30 pm on the fateful evening.
The Court heard that the accused person stalked the two lovers and waited to strike while armed with a kitchen knife.
It was then that the Officer Commanding Station, Butere police station instructed the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) and a police officer, Sergeant Sang to accompany the accused to the scene where they recovered the murder weapon (kitchen knife).
According to the report from Butere police station, the parents of the deceased learnt of the catastrophe involving their daughter from the witnesses at the scene at Shibinga village area in Mumias East Sub County.
Seline had been rushed to Kakamega referral hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries.
Shabir, who is also a witness to this case narrated that on March 2 at around 3.00 pm, he was in his house when his girlfriend Seline Nanzira came. They parted ways later that evening then received a text shortly afterwards asking whether he had been with Seline.
He said he inquired who the person was and it turned out to be the deceased sister.
Seline’s sister informed him that his girlfriend had been maimed by a back stab and was at Butere sub-county hospital.
Shabir told the court that he decided to do his investigations by visiting the home of his former girlfriend Solphine Mbuya.
He met her and indeed she confirmed that she had stabbed Seline and was not afraid of the dire consequences.
He said the accused told him that she had committed such offence because of the love he had developed for Shabir.
The prosecution urged the court to serve the accused a minimum of ten years albeit after pleaded guilty of the charge of murder in the first hearing.
The perpetrator is free on a bond term. However, the anticipatory bail could be short-lived when the High court of Kakamega declares its verdict on 15th June 2023.
