Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has asked county enforcement officers to strictly adhere to the provisions of chapter six of the constitution on integrity and leadership.
Speaking Friday while promoting a number of the officers to various ranks and cadres, Barasa told the officers that they are going to be monitored and those who demonstrate outstanding performance will be rewarded.
The promotion follows a County Executive Committee Meeting which resolved that a new scheme of service for the officers to be implemented in the next financial year be put in place to motivate them.
Some county enforcement officers have however, in the past come under criticism for their high handedness while discharging their duties with small scale traders and motorcycle operators.
The Governor at the same time raised concern over continued delay of disbursement of equitable share from the national government, which he said was derailing county government programmes and projects.
He said counties are still owed arrears for the month of April to the tune of Sh3.33 billion, the month of May Sh31.45 billion while June arrears stand at Sh31.45 billion.
