Laikipia County calls off recruitment of casuals

Laikipia county government has called off a recruitment exercise for hiring of casuals scheduled to take place today in all of its towns.

Job seekers who had turned up at the Nyahururu social hall in the morning were shocked to find notices pinned all over the place announcing cancellation of the exercise.

According to sources privy to the cancellation, the exercise was cancelled at the last minute due to disagreement between the Laikipia County government and the MCAs.

According to our source, the MCAs had weighed in on the matter saying sacking the already existing casuals and replacing them with a new lot would undermine them politically.

“The general public is hereby notified that, following consultation with leadership of County assembly, the governor has called off the scheduled countywide recruitment of temporary employees that was planned to take place Wednesday 23, August 2023 until further notice,” said the notice dated August 22 and signed by the County secretary Koinange Wahome.

Koinange further said, “In the meantime, the status quo of the staff currently engaged on temporary terms shall be maintained.”

The recruitment exercise had been announced by the County Secretary in another notice dated August 15th, this year.

In May this year, Koinange directed heads of departments to issue dismissal letters to the serving casuals who were hired by former governor, Ndiritu Muriithi’s regime.
