Learning institutions in Kisii County have been urged to put up perimeter walls and install fire extinguishers in a bid to mitigate fire incidents, which end up destroying property and disrupting learning.
Kisii county Commissioner Tom Anjere said there was a need to employ a new approach to stop insecurity in schools and appealed to school management committees and elected leaders to prioritize perimeter walls.
The County Commissioner was speaking to the press on Tuesday after on Saturday a fire razed down a classroom destroying property of unknown amount.
Anjere said the move will go a long way in guarding insecurity and drug abuse, which are common problems in the institutions.
Anjere urged learning institutions to hire security guards from credible firms to ensure criminals don’t take advantage of the porous entrances to cause crime.
He said the security team was willing to offer induction to their security employees and called on the school management to utilize the opportunity and work with the Deputy County Commissioners to nip in the bud any emerging security issues.
